Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a metal screw-like fixture that is submerged into the jawbone. A dental implant's main purpose is to support a false tooth or several lost teeth. Over time, a process called osseointegration will occur, when the jawbone grows to the implant, making it very strong.

Who is suitable for dental implant treatment?

Like all dental treatment, every patient is unique and is therefore not always suited to all procedures, including dental implants. Generally those who are reasonably healthy and seeking to replace lost teeth are suitable for treatment.

If you suffer from alcoholism, psychiatric disorders, or uncontrolled diabetes, dental implants may not be suitable for you. Another deciding factor is whether you have enough jawbone space for the fixture. To see if you’re a suitable candidate for dental implants, contact us today and we can schedule you a consultation appointment with our dentist, Dr. Azmi.

What are the benefits of implants? Primarily, dental implants offer a solution for people suffering from tooth loss. Additional benefits include:

  • Rehabilitated speech
  • Improved chewing
  • Improved facial aesthetics
  • Jaw bone structure protection
  • Reduced chances of gum disease

Why do dentists recommend implants?

People are becoming more and more self-conscious about the look of their smile and teeth. Unlike dentures and removable bridges, dental implants can provide stable, reliable, and visually appealing replacements for missing teeth.

Does it hurt?

To ensure our patients are as comfortable and relaxed as possible, dental implant procedures are conducted with the patient under a local anaesthesia, which means there is generally no pain.

You may feel a little sore a few hours after the procedure, when the anaesthesia starts to wear off. Your dentist,  Dr. Azmi, will inform you of suitable painkiller medication that can be taken. Some swelling and bruising is also common, however, every patient is unique and will therefore experience different results.
