Tip #1
After drinking fruit juices, especially orange juice, it is advisable to refrain from cleaning teeth for about one hour. This is because the acid in the juices temporarily softens the tooth surface, causing brushing to be more abrasive.
Tip #2
Inter-dental brushes are an excellent way of removing food debris and plaque from between teeth. The gap between teeth may vary, so why not ask our dental therapist, Dawn, to identify how one size of inter-dental brush can be used rather then several sizes.
Tip #3
Mouthwash. There are many alcohol-free mouthwashes now available on the market.
Tip #4
Sugar-free gum generate saliva to keep the mouth clean and fresh, yet actually decrease decay – good to use when not able to brush.
Tip #5
Snoring. The very best anti-snoring devises are now made in Perth (available through Lynwood Dental Centre).
Tip #6
Smoking damages gums. Teeth, and especially white composite fillings, stain badly when exposed to cigarette smoke. Porcelain restorations are not stained by cigarette smoke.
Tip #7
Brush teeth at least twice daily, after using inter-dental brushes and/or dental floss. Use toothpaste containing fluoride. After brushing, an alcohol-free mouthwash is recommended. Regularly replace toothbrush (at least every 3 months).
